Starting with Prototypes
Our team is formed by Michele Marchese Andreu and Finn Reynolds. We were tasked on creating 2 game prototypes in 1 week with the theme of “designing for control”. We started with a brainstorm session of many questions that would help us create the prototypes. Some of the questions we came up with were “can you make a platformer without the jump button?” or “is it possible to make a shooter game where you only have 1 bullet?” and “can you make a game where you shoot to move?” alongside some more. After brainstorming we decide to make our 2 prototypes based on the last question since the other questions ether where not as interesting, were hard to make or did not help to make a game designed for control. Since the question could be interpreted in many ways we decided to do the same one and from there we created the prototypes.
The first one uses a grappling hook for both attacking and moving. The player will point a cannon to where they want to launch the grappling hook and the press the left button on the mouse, this will pull them towards the wall or enemy . If they reach the wall they will completely stop, but for now if they reach an enemy nothing will happen since this is mostly a movement prototype. To prevent this, they can retire it during the pull and send it somewhere else to change directions and keep the speed.
Our second prototype is more in the genre of puzzle games. It uses a mechanic where you shoot at a platform you want to teleport too. You are given a limited number of "teleports" and must use them sparingly to reach the end goal of each level.
Teleporting to a new area moves the camera with you and reveals more of the level. You can use this information to plan your next teleport. Levels may require multiple tries to fully explore the level and to find out how to get to the end in the least amount of teleports.
